YOUNGSTOWN OHIO – July 27, 2009 – Good things are happening in the Mahoning Valley. On the heels of a July announcement by Entrepreneur magazine that Youngstown, Ohio is one of the top ten best cities in America to start a business, a Mahoning Valley software company is set to confirm it.
Zethus Software, a national leader in cloud storage technology and a Youngstown Business Incubator Portfolio Company founded in 2003, recently announced their next phase of CyberLabNet, a very successful collaboration between the company and Youngstown State University.
“This project is an excellent example of the Mahoning Valley’s ability to form beneficial academic/industry collaborations with impetus and support of government organizations;” said Brad Myers, Zethus CEO. “And most importantly, CyberLabNet is bringing job growth and educational opportunities to the area.”
“By the end of the summer, we will have completed a very successful beta test in collaboration with the Youngstown State University Chemistry Department,” explained Eric Parker, Zethus CTO and founder. “A team of chemistry and computer science undergraduate and graduate students participated in the testing of the system under the guidance of Zethus Software development staff and professors, providing valuable real world learning opportunities and training for students while training high tech area employees.”
“The project is on budget, on schedule and provides cutting-edge technology not only to Youngstown State University, but also as a product nationally in the near future,” said chemistry professor Dr. Allen Hunter.
This fall early adopters will be selected to begin the commercialization of the system. Zethus Software will launch the product roll-out in 1Q 2010 and plans to hire ten full time staff throughout the year as a result.
Funding for the project was spearheaded by Congressman Tim Ryan (D-OH).
“CyberLabNet is strongly poised for commercialization,” said Myers. “CyberLabNet allows members of a virtual community, geographically and organizationally dispersed, to securely organize and share access to instruments and sensor and secure managed data storage and the benefits are many. It’s easy to use, easy to administrate and install, it’s inexpensive and scalable. Plus, CyberLabNet’s web delivered tools can be used securely from anywhere.”
CyberLabNet is a plugin module to the company’s cloud computing platform, cumulus:Quorum.
“This is a very interesting system because we built it from the ground up as a holistic solution that is easy to use, manage and install,” said Parker. “It is a unified system for a diverse and extensible array of sensors distributed anywhere usable from anywhere that includes secure managed storage. I cannot stress how important including storage is to solving the challenges of shared access to secure, managed instruments and storage.”
