Cyber enabling provides secure, remote, collaborative use of instruments and the data collected and related to their use.
Secure access is a critical element for remote systems and thus must be powerful, transparent and easy to use or it will be poorly used lessening its effectiveness. Security encompasses communication, data transmission, storage and controlling who has access rights to what.
Remote access (read Internet) to instruments and data is essential in today’s globally connected and mobile world. This provides flexibility of time and location allowing greater utilization of resources.
Collaboration allows a community of users to share (simultaneously and synchronously) common resources. The key to effective collaboration is organization and structure – fluidly defining who can access what when. The organization and structure must be transparent and easy to use or it will not be effective.
The inclusion of secure, collaborative access to data is essential – the data must be securely stored, organized and managed allowing secure, remote use from anywhere at any time.
